There is a very popular plastic surgery procedure known as liposuction. This is the removal of unwanted fat by using a suction device to pull fat cells from the body. Incisions for liposuction is made in the appropriate area, and then the goal of liposuction is to sculpt parts of the body by removing just the right amount of fat in the area while doing minimal damage to the other tissues surrounding the area. When laser fat removal techniques were introduced it allowed surgeons to treat areas in much greater detail than ever before. Laser liposuction quickly became the preferred method of liposuction surgery when treating small areas of the body.

The difference between laser lypo and traditional liposuction surgery is in the tools and how the fat is liquefied before the removal. Traditionally the fat was broken up with force of the suction or other mechanical device. With laser lypo a small optic fiber carrying the laser is inserted into the area where the fat will be removed. The laser generates heat which causes the fat cells to melt making it easy to remove with a tiny suction tube.
This is a much more precise method of liposuction and thus leads to the many advantages such as lowered risk and faster, less painful recovery times. It is not uncommon for surgeons performing a major procedure to combine different liposuction methods for optimal results. First they will use a form of traditional liposuction to remove the large quantities of fat and then follow up with laser lypo to finalize the sculpting in greater detail.
Since the procedure is done at a much smaller scale the severity of risks are reduced significantly. Common problems that plague incisions for liposuction surgeries such as blood loss, bruising, scaring or infections are much less probable among laser liposuction patients. The precision to target fat cells means less damage to blood vessels and thus less bleeding. The smaller incisions required to treat the area also means less chance of scarring or infections. All these things add up to make the recovery much quicker and a typical patient can expect to return to their normal daily activities after just a day or two of rest.
