Are you the type of person who uses the internet to find used laptops for sale? If not, you certainly should be. In fact, the internet is probably the best method for finding used laptops, anywhere in the world. No store can compare with the selection you'll find online; you can search any store, any time of the day, and ship to and from anywhere in the world. It's a perfect system; you don't even have to be able to speak the same language as the person selling you the goods.
The number one thing you want to do before you go shopping is decide if you actually want something used or refurbished. There is a distinction here. Refurbished laptops are those laptops that are reconditioned using an intensive method of checking and rebuilding. This is usually done by the manufacturer or an authorized company. What you get in the end is mostly a new laptop. Now, buying second hand laptops (i.e. used laptops) is a little bit different. Used laptops aren't reconditioned whatsoever; they're sold as-is and usually do not come with any kind of written or implied warranty. Usually it'll be your job to ensure that the laptop is actually working properly before you purchase it. Normally these laptops are found at such sites as eBay and craigslist.
While you can find some great deals on laptops at either of those sites, buyer beware: You can get ripped off by unscrupulous individuals who are just out to make a quick buck. Do your homework and protect yourself from this by insisting on a pre-purchase inspection (if possible). If it's not possible, I highly recommend you go with a factory refurbished laptop instead. While you may spend more money for a refurbished laptop than a simple "used" laptop, you know the quality is going to be better in the long run.
