When compared to other styles of lights, chrome lighting is one of the most affordable and versatile choices. There are quite a few things to consider any time you are looking to upgrade the light fixtures in a room, and these same principles apply to chrome finished lights. In this post I want to offer up some tips for figuring out if chrome lights are right for your room and explain why these lights are so affordable.
The reason that chrome lights are affordable is because they are generally made from lower quality brass, then a chrome finish is added. That doesn't mean that the light fixtures are low quality, it means that's the brass that isn't suited to be finished on its own. There certainly are some chrome fixtures that cost an incredible amount, but these tend to be the "designer" brands that are going to be ridiculously expensive in whatever finish you choose.
In order to figure out if you can use chrome lights in your space, there are a couple of things that should be in the room. The biggest thing that makes chrome look really good is contrasting color. That means something bold and strong in color. Bold colors will reflect in the light fixture and help it blend into the room, rather than stick out. Pastel and soft colors won't reflect the same way, so the fixture ends up looking awkward up on the ceiling or wall.
Also, be sure that there aren't any brass, copper, or gold colored fixtures or accents in the same room. This is one of the biggest design goofs that people make, and it rarely looks good! Chrome does, however, work great with stainless, brushed nickel, and silver colored accents.
Chrome lighting is a great addition to just about any home, as long as the simple things described above are in place. Don't use this style of fixture with soft colors or gold/copper colored accents and you will be happy with your choice for many years to come!
