Coffee Table Books Defined

Almost everyone has heard of the term “coffee table books”.  These are books that are put on a coffee table to decorate and/ or to create conversation. Think about it:  how many furniture pieces have inspired a whole category of books?

Coffee table books are often oversized and rather heavy because the books typically remain  in their position once placed. So there is not a great need to make them easily portable.  In general, their subject matter is something nonfiction, and many times, the subject matter is related to something visual or some type of art.  Pages of coffee table books frequently consist mainly of drawings and photographs, and are often accompanied by  small text blocks, or captions as opposed to long sections of prose.  Do you have any coffee table books at your home?
