If your bathroom was not designed to accommodate shower plumbing, you should know that converting it could be quite tricky. But this article will help you using simple steps that will make the installation a lot easier.
The first step is to turn off your water supply. You should do this to ascertain that no water will be flowing through the pipes when you are working on them. After that, turn on a faucet near your bathroom so you can drain the water from the pipes. This is done to ensure that the pipes and the area you are working on will be dry.
Next, get to know your existing plumbing. Check the existing water and drain pipes installed in your bathroom. Inspect if they are concealed behind a wall or underneath the floor. Once you found the pipes, cut through the wall or floor that is concealing them to expose the plumbing. Take measurements of the pipes and put markings on the area where you intend to attach the additional pipes. Now take the new pipes that you intend to install and cut them according to the appropriate measurements.
Use solvent cement to join the pipes. Apply a liberal amount of solvent cement onto the ends of the pipe that you intend to add to your existing plumbing. You should also add a little bit of solvent cement on the fittings. Quickly attach the pipe ends and the fittings and twist a little to make them fit tightly. Keep in mind that the solvent cement dries fast, so be sure to attach the pipes quickly. You should also be sure that your measurements are correct because the solvent cement will make the attachments permanent and there will be no way to undo the attachments. Attach the new drain pipes between the existing drain pipe and the riser pipe.
Finally, install the riser pipe by attaching its end to the shower’s water supply pipe. Make sure that the fittings you are using are those that can curve to a 90-degree angle to allow you to have the pipe protrude through the wall and connect the shower hose and other needed fixtures to new pipe installations.
