A fixed rate mortgage, or a FRM, is a loan that the interest rate and your monthly mortgage payment remains fixed for the period of the loan. This way, you are sheltered from any economy break and safe from an outrageous fluctuation in your payments.
You can find these mortgages for forty, thirty, twenty-five, twenty, and as short as fifteen and ten years. Usually you will find that the shorter your term of the loan lasts, the lower your interest rates tend to be.
However, the most popular mortgages that people take out are the thirty and fifteen years. The thirty-year is a fixed rate is pretty traditional with monthly payments that are lower than a shorter term would be. The downside is that you have to pay a lot of interest payments. Finding commercial mortgage leads is a great way to get a good deal on mortgages.
Whether or not a fixed rate mortgage loan is good for you depends on a number of factors. In general, banks and lending institutions are much more knowledgable about long term financial movements than we are, and chances are that they would only offer deals that are best for them in the long run, not for you. The one factor which makes fixed rate mortgages attractive for the consumer is that they are able to budget more accurately and won't have any nasty surprises with repayments. This peace of mind could well be worth paying extra for in the long run.
