One of the oldest weapons that has been used throughout the ages for both hunting and in waging war has been the bow and arrow. The concept of propelling a missile at high speeds has been refined and perfected until the modern day where the traditional long bow has been replaced by the more high-tech creation known as the compound bow.
The compound bow is a precision instrument that has been developed to assist the shooter in drawing back the bowstring with as little effort as possible. It does this with a series of pulleys and cables that take up the weight of the tension that would otherwise have to be shouldered by the person shooting the bow.
The result is a bow that is far more powerful than ever before that is capable of firing an arrow at high speeds. The compound bows that are used today are light in weight but are extremely effective and heavy in stopping power. In fact, some bows have the problem of being too powerful with the arrows fired from them unable to withstand the tremendous forces imparted on them and shattering in flight.
Just because a compound bow is powerful doesn’t necessarily mean it is going to be any more accurate. The onus is still on the shooters to develop their skills so that they are able to use their bows effectively. Constant practice is required to maintain a consistent shot and fine tuning of the bow will help to keep it firing in a way that can be relied upon.
Getting to know your own bow is a crucial part of the training process. The more often you use your bow the better you come to know its idiosyncrasies. There are many small adjustments that can be made to improve your shooting performance as well as devices, such as bow stabilizers, that may be added to reduce the vibration and give the shooter an even smoother shot.
