There are two common misconceptions surrounding honeycomb cellular blinds that I would like to clear up. The first is that, being made of paper, these blinds have no insulating properties, and the other one is that they cannot be used in moist areas like bathrooms.

Regarding the insulating properties of honeycomb blinds, surprisingly these are one of the best types of blinds to use for insulation. It is easy to see where this misconception comes from, because if you were to feel a honeycomb blind, there really is not a lot to it. But it’s not the material that creates the tremendous insulating effect, it’s the actual structure. The individual cells have air pockets that trap the cold (or hot, depending on the season) air, and prevent it from entering your home.

Regarding the dangers of moisture to honeycomb blinds, it’s true that you need to keep in mind that you will be using the blinds in a moist environment when purchasing them, however as long as you know that fact up front, there are specially treated blinds that are created just for this purpose.
