Many people desire to become lawyers, but there countless challenges and trying steps that one has to pass through in order to become a qualified practicing lawyer. Lawyers can practice as notaries- being involved in protection of people against fraud, they can work as researchers with legal firms, as criminal lawyers and so forth. The many employment opportunities notwithstanding, there is high competition due to high intake of students to study law. For this reason, students aspiring to be lawyers must increase their efforts and accomplish all the prerequisites for them to be great lawyers with high standing.

The leading and most important thing that one should strive for is to have the desire to become a lawyer. This takes in developing interest in a wide variety of areas while in school. Upon excelling in high school examinations, one should register for a four-year degree course in law. The university offering the bachelor’s degree in laws should be accredited and the student should aspire to pass with a high GPA (Grade Point Average). Upon graduation, the step that follows is to arrange to join the law school. Before joining the law school, one may acquire and read tapes, books or other enlightening media in order to be adequately equipped for evaluation.

Erudition in the law school lasts three years and within this time, the student has to engage in a variety of practices related to law such as writing for the law school journal, being in the Bar Review, or working as an intern with several law firms. The skills acquired are pivotal in enhancing the student’s capability as a practicing lawyer once the training is complete and is important in adding value to the student’s resume. The last step is to make choice for the area of specialty in law.
