It is important to learn stock market history so you can accept the fact that the stock market will not always head in one direction forever. It moves up and it moves down regardless of what the media, blogosphere, or Uncle Harry says. If you just look at the history you'll see the peaks and valleys that make the long climb up to where we are today. If you keep this in mind you'll be able to do the two hardest parts of investing. You won't panic on a downfall and pull all your money out (accepting the loss) and you won't keep your money in when you need it for retirement. If you can avoid these two extremes you will earn a nice return over your investing career.
