Electrolysis has been around for 135 years and, according to the American Electrology Association, this method is the only one that is truly permanent. It can be used on all skin and hair types, but it is a tedious procedure, requiring the technician to insert a tiny needle into each individual hair follicle to destroy it.
Laser hair removal and IPL are more recent methods. Although all methods take several sessions for best results, these new technologies are faster. But because they target dark areas, most only work well on lighter skin and dark hair.
