Planning a baby and getting pregnant may make future mommies ecstatic and excited, but there are a few things that we didn’t know – and didn’t ever want to find out, such as where all those extra food we ate when we were pregnant were going to land. No, ladies… the fat doesn’t get expelled from our bodies when our babies do. That’s why when the baby comes out, we are often left with a less than toned stomach, complete with flab and “pregnancy fat”. It is my calculated guess that most people want to have a flat stomach, especially those post-pregnant women who not only have to battle the extra pounds gained during the 9 months of carrying another human being, but also those crazy pregnancy hormones.

Every new mother has a goal: to get rid of the baby fat and get the tummy back in shape. However, because mothers are so devoted to their babies, they put the needs of their infants before their own; pretty soon, changing diapers and feeding the baby have become priorities, and before the year is over, that obscure dream of toned tummies are pushed at the very back of our consciousness. And if ever we still think of having a flat stomach when we look at ourselves in the mirror, we see it as another thing-to-do on our long, long list of things-to-do. We will view it as another exercise that will exhaust our overused, sleep-deprived selves even more than the relaxation and recreational techniques that is really is? I have one word for you: YOGA.

Yoga has been around for centuries, and even celebrities swear by this routine to tone the body as well as promoting inner peace and balance which new mommies desperately need. it is undoubtedly one of the best exercises for a flat stomach available. You can do this while your precious little bundle of joy is taking a nap, or when it’s daddy’s turn to look after him or her. Some yoga postures and exercises are very effective for toning your tummy muscles and can even return your tummy to its pre-pregnancy state. The added bonus is that it not only gives your mind peace and calms your frazzled nerves, but it also helps the female organs return to their original position quicker and improves overall blood circulation to the pelvic area.
