Princess toys are a staple for most little girls’ play time. The concept goes back to ancient fairy tales, where princesses are beautiful, confident, and good.
Disney has created an entire empire based around Disney Princesses. While not all of their characters are princesses as in the daughter of a king, they are all heroines. Disney Princesses vary greatly in nationality. Pocahontas is Native American, Jasmine is Arabian, Mulan is from China, and in 2009 Disney is introducing the first African American Disney princess – Tiana.
Disney has helped instill that every little girl is a Princess, and can accomplish anything they want in life. Whether you are a waitress from New Orleans or an actual Princess from Arabia everyone has obstacles but should always pursue their dreams.
I believe that these concepts are very positive for little girls, which is why I allow my children to play with all types of princess toys.
