When someone mentions the phrase ‘tummy tuck’, do you think you know what they are talking about?  If you do, do you realize that there are actually three different kinds of tummy tucks?  As a result of this common confusion, this article is going to discuss the three kinds of tummy tucks available today.

Before we begin this discussion, we should point out the purpose of this medical procedure.  It is not designed to remove fatty deposits; indeed, a patient would only undergo this procedure to remove sagging, excess abdominal skin.  With that said, let’s begin our discussion of the three kinds of tummy tucks.

The first and most common is the traditional tummy tuck.  The cost for a tummy tuck will usually range between $5K to $10K, depending on a myriad of factors.  During this procedure, the cosmetic surgeon will only operate on the abdominal area, from below the breast plate to the top of the pelvic region.

The second kind of tummy tuck is the mini tummy tuck.  This procedure is becoming more and more popular nowadays, since it is cheaper (between $3K and $6K) and takes less time to recover than a normal tummy tuck.  During this procedure, the surgeon only operates on the abdominal area below the navel.

The last version that we will describe is the extended tummy tuck.  This procedure is similar to a traditional tummy tuck, with the addition of the surgeon also operating on the lower portion of the patient’s back.

As you can see, when someone says they have recently undergone a tummy tuck, you can never be truly sure which medical procedure that they actually had (unless you directly ask them which variant they had).  If you have found this article interesting and would like to learn more about tummy tuck, please take a moment and visit the NJ Tummy Tuck Guide.
