If you are suffering from a refractive vision problem, there are three different eye surgeries which can most likely help you.  These are Lasik, Lasek, and Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK).  If you are interested in learning more about these eye surgeries, keep reading below for more information.

Of the three surgeries, Lasik is by far the most popular.  This surgery’s main characteristic is the fact that during the surgery, a surgeon will make a flap in the patient’s cornea.  Once he accomplishes this action, the surgeon then uses an excimer laser to eliminate a portion of the stoma.  As a result of the shape of the stoma being changed, the patient’s eye also changes, resulting in improved vision.

The next eye surgery that we will discuss is Lasek.  This refractive correction surgery is very similar to Lasik.  The only difference between these two surgeries is that the eye surgeon does not make a flap in the patient’s cornea.  Instead, a surgeon will apply a diluted alcohol solution to the patient’s cornea.  This solution causes the top layer of the cornea to become loose, which permits the surgeon to use the excimer laser on the patient’s stoma.

The last refractive surgery that we are going to discuss today is PRK.  This surgery is very similar to the first two eye surgeries we discussed.  It main differentiator is the fact that instead of cutting a flap in the cornea or using an alcohol diluted solution, the surgeon will use the excimer laser to vaporize the top layer of the cornea, which then permits the surgeon to vaporize a portion of the stoma.

As you have seen, while these three eye surgeries may have different names, the fact is that they are all very similar in their approach to remedying refractive vision problems.  If you would like more information on the various eye surgeries, make sure you stop by the Lasik Dallas Guide.
