The first step in dealing with your dog's allergies is finding the cause. Believe it or not, roughly 40% of dogs suffer from flea allergies. The reaction that your dog has from fleas does not stem from the presence of the flea, but the flea's saliva. When this type of dog allergy is present, the symptoms would include, but are not limited to: excessive scratching, hair loss (usually at the base of the tail), irritation and redness.
Treating a dog's flea allergies can be as simple as giving your dog a bath with specially-formulated flea shampoo to treating him with veterinarian-prescribed drugs.
