Where Can I Find Trainee Roustabout Vacancies?

I recently started searching for trainee roustabout vacancies on the internet. My son has finished school, is single and does not quite know what he wants to do with his life. The options are to continue studying or to take a gap year. One of the parents at his school told us about trainee roustabout jobs, and also said that there were vacancies availble for this position. A roustabout works on an oil rig. This means long extended periods away from home, but for a youngster this is more of an adventure than a hardship. One big advantage of this position is that no qualification or previous experience is needed.

A search on Google for trainee roustabout vacancies yielded 145 000 results. The sites displayed on the first page ranged from general information to oil companies having vacancies, and also many employment comanies specializing in finding staff for oil rigs that are hiring. I followed a number of those links and found sites that not only recruited, but spelt out exactly how to go about applying for the vacancies. A number of these did not help me at all, as they required personal interviews with my son but were located in different parts of the world from where we are.

I did however find a number of sites that had the facility of filling in the forms and applying for a trainee roustabout job online. My son dillegently applied at some 15 different site advertising vacancies for trainee roustabout. To my surprise, he received responses from a number of these within days. Knowing that the global job market is down and that many jobs require previous experience and / or specific qualifications, I was estatic that he managed to be offered a position within a month of starting the process. The pay is also quite good!

Whether or not my son will make a career as a roustabout or even stay in the petrochemical industry, I don't know. This is however a great start and for him, an adventure of note!
