People seem to think that just because you get something made from leather anymore, you are getting it as a luxury option. In most cases, I suppose this to be true. For example, when purchasing a new car, if you choose the all leather interior this is considered to be an unnecessary luxury and not necessity. But when it comes to traveling, there are countless necessities from your plan of travel to your luggage. But when we consider luggage, is leather luggage a luxury?
It might be difficult to encourage you to not use luggage for a trip that requires you to pack things. So, you should be informed of the qualities that might persuade you to consider luggage options in leather.
Are there real benefits to buying luggage in leather over anything else?
I would say certainly that there are. Luggage is the type of item that becomes more of an investment based on the frequency of its use. People want to be able to buy one set of luggage and have it last them throughout their traveling years. Leather is considered one of the most durable materials we have, so if your luggage is made of such a long lasting material it will surely last you a long time. With quality luggage, it opens the window to passing the luggage on with well wishes and stories of where each piece has been.
Leather products are also notorious for the abuse they can take. Meaning that they can take a lot of beating and still maintain their shape and quality as the day they were purchased. Many different types of luggage cannot say this, and it shows when you use these other types for a time or two. Consider how rough most airport employees are with your luggage, and that's just the beginning of what could happen to your stuff. Typical traveling will present many instances to ruin luggage, whether it's your fault or not. But leather luggage is by nature more rugged and can take a licking and keep true to their original appearance and quality.
Based on simple appearance, leather luggage tends to look better too. This might be a matter best summed up to personal opinion, but I think most could agree that leather luggage is much more sleek and trendy that good old tweed. Tweed itself is usually a stitch of three different colors, none of which are ever that exciting.
Lastly, leather luggage does not usually present itself as boxy as other types and makes. Meaning, there aren't the annoying hard plastic inserts that tend to be more of a nuisance than assistance any time that I have ever had to use them. Leather luggage of a comparable size can hold just as much (or in some cases more) than the boxier styles.
So I must say undoubtedly that leather luggage is what you should buy when you go to buy your travel gear. Leather looks better, lasts longer and works better. If you are looking for more than that in luggage, you are hard pressed to find it.
